In Sri Lanka Divided by Nine province. It is Western, Central, Southern, Eastern, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, North Central, Northwestern and North Provinces. The North Central Province located in the dry zone, 205km north of Colombo. About 1.3 Million Population living in this province. Area 10472 square kilometers there are two Main Districts. it is Anuradhapura and (7179 square kilometers) & Polonnaruwa (3293 square kilometers). In this province Capitol city in Anuradhapura. This region Border will be North, Northwest, Eastern and central provinces.
In ancient time this region quite highlights because According to Mahawansa,(written chronicle) Sri Lanka first capital (kingdom) establish in Anuradhapura (4th century BC to 11th century AD) by King Pandukabhaya.
East of Anuradhapura is located Polonnaruwa. Polonnaruwa is the 2nd kingdom of island. (11th century AD to 13th century AD). King Vijayabahu who Established as a Sinhalese second capital.
King Vijebahu (11th century A.D), King Parakramabahu (12th Century A.D), King Nishshankamalla (12th century A.D) are the main highlighted kings in Polonnaruwa.
Anuradhapura ancient city and Polonnaruwa ancient city are the main two of UNESCO world heritage sights in Sri Lanka.
