Kataragama in the southeast region of the country. It’s a secret city and the busiest during the season of pilgrims in the month of July or August the festival held to venerate God Kataragama( God Muruga).
The origins of the city and the temple beliefs go back many centuries.
Usually taking place in the months of July or August, the Perahera runs around two weeks, as a tradition many groups of Pilgrims travel through jungle with on foot on the long devotional journey from the North and from the northeast(Jaffna peninsula). They arrive just in time for the Kataragama Perahera. This great walk is known as the Pada Yatra
The perahera festival will be for 2019 on 3rd July to16th of July
