Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage is located in the village named Pinnawala, in Kegalle district, Sabaragamuwa province Sri Lanka. About 90 kilometers away from the center of Colombo. Turn left at the 82km post on Colombo Kandy A1 main road.
Another access by the train, The Rambukkana train station location about 3 kilometers away from the Pinnawala elephant orphanage.
In 1975 stared this elephant orphanage by the wildlife department. But currently, the orphanage runs by the national zoological department.
Nowadays Pinnawala is the most popular and accessible place to see large numbers of these elephants in a natural habitat. More than 90 elephants in the orphanage and they are leisurely spending time there with daily activities.
Mornings 8.30am to 5.45pm orphanage will be opened for the visitors.
