Nuwaraeliya

Nuwaraeliya is one of the famous city in Sri lanka, located 170 km from capital Colombo located in the central hills. The name Nuwaraeliya means city of plains or city of light.

The elevation is 1868m above from the sea level. Therefore its has a subtropical climate. The average temperature is 16 Celsius. The recorded lower temperature In the region was -2.6celcius

The city attracts many tourist around the world. And as well as Sri Lankans. This is the number one holiday destination for Sri Lankans. Mainly due to the subtropical climate. We know Sri Lanka is a tropical country, so generally we do have fairly hot conditions. Therefore we love to be in slight cold conditions.

Especially when we have long holidays, this is the first choice always. Especially in the month of April, which is long holiday for us, the Nuwara eliya and suburbs very crowded. It’s a festival season here. Open concerts, dj parties, street shops and shopping, events for the kids, temporary theme parks, car races, motor bike races. Are held.

Even during the colonial period of the british,in 19th 20th centuries. This was the place where the British officers came for the recreational works. Such as play golf, cricket, hauntings, and many more

Even today can witness many colonial buildings in the surroundings,

The Nuwara Eliya referred as little England. If we look at the structure of the some building it reminds the England. Many English names in sign board can be seen.The grand hotel Nuwara Eliya, which still preserve the typical British style.

The Horton plains national park. This located in between Nuwaraeliya and Haputale. This was the latest addition. There many types of floras and faunas, in which some are endemic to the region. Sambur deers, troque maqaques, puple faced leaf monkeys and many more.

And also a flower call Nelu flower which blooming every 14 year and last for nearly 2 weeks. Many people go there to witness it.
The finally announced national park is Horton plains. Unlike the other national parks this one located in high elevation with 1900m above from the sea level. There some species which endemic to this region. This national park is belongs to peak wilderness which is one of world heritage site of Sri Lanka. This place is used to be a hunting area during the colonial period and its believing  the last elephant was killed in 1940s.

Gregory Park

Gregory lake park is.one of the popular place in this destination. the name come from British colonial time. Who Sir William Gregory (year 1873) this attraction used as a water sports and recreationally activities. at the lake park there is boat riders too. Can be reaching by sea planes, which taking just 20 minutes from Colombo. With swans shaped paddle boats for more adventurous. There are horse rides also.

Victoria Park

Queen Visctoria park estamblished in year 1897. Total land area will be 27 acres.this is a place of where most of the travellers are visiting. its nice garden with well maintained by the musniciple council. there are beutifull flowers (blooming season march to april and auuast to september), trees. There is seaprate place for kids.

Ramboda Waterfall

Ramboda waterfall located between Nuwaraeliya to Kandy road (A5 road). Approx. 15km away from down town.30minutes drive. Ramboda waterfall is 9th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. And 100m height.
